When will the Discussion Paper be available?

After we get feedback on the Recommended Directions from the community, the Final Discussion Paper will be presented to County Planning and Development Committee in May and posted on this website.

What is a Prime Agricultural Area?

A Prime Agricultural Area is based in part on the Canada Land Inventory. The Canada Land Inventory created a system for mapping soil capability for agriculture into classes. The classes are on a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being the best soil for farming. A Prime Agricultural Area is an area where prime agricultural lands predominate and includes:

    • Areas where the Canada Land Inventory identified soils with agricultural capability of classes 1 to 3 and associated lands with soils of classes 4 to 7, and
    • Additional areas where there is a local concentration of farms that show characteristics of ongoing agriculture.”
