Change is Coming to Bruce County

How do we create a Bruce County for everyone, while preserving what we value most?

We need to think ahead. We need to plan for it.

Getting ahead of social, built and environmental change takes professional planning and public participation. We call it Plan The Bruce.

Plan the Bruce is a land use planning project that will inform the new Official Plan — the roadmap for growth and development for the next 25 years. Meaningful public engagement is an important part of our journey.

The Official Plan is the strategic document that guides our community’s growth and development. The Official Plan impacts how and where Bruce County will grow. It considers our unique, local needs and guides how we will work towards a vision for our future.

Eight projects (or “guiding principles”) are informing the new Official Plan for Bruce County:

  • Agriculture: Ensuring the future of food thrives here
  • Business: Growing economic health through business diversity
  • Connecting: Bringing our communities closer together
  • Communities: Making healthy communities a priority
  • Good Growth: Combining development with preservation of character
  • Heritage: Identifying and promoting our unique culture
  • Homes: Increasing availability and mix
  • Natural Legacy: Managing what we inherited for future generations
